As a Forestry Supervisor, you will play a crucial role in overseeing timber development activities, from strategic planning and contractor supervision to environmental leadership. You’ll have the opportunity to guide and influence the future of forestry while ensuring safety, compliance, and sustainability in all aspects of the work.
Duties
- Drive Compliance: Stay on top of Occupational Health and Safety standards, legislation, and Sustainable Forest Management (SFM) requirements.
- Supervise Operations: Oversee multi-phase contracts, including layout, cruising, ecology, archaeology, and streams.
- Manage Contractors: Lead contractor safety, performance, and environmental leadership initiatives.
- Ensure Data Integrity: Maintain the integrity of all planning and permitting data.
- Permit Management: Manage all aspects of cutting and road permit acquisitions.
- Appraisal & Stumpage: Conduct appraisal analyses and implement best management practices for stumpage.
- Collaborate: Work closely with other departments, government agencies, and stakeholders to ensure successful planning and operational outcomes.
- Field Work: Supervise and participate in field activities like cruising, layout, stream classification, and ecology studies.
Qualifications
- Education: A University Degree or Technical Diploma in Forestry or a related field, and be an RPF, RFT, or eligible for registration with the Forest Professionals of British Columbia.
- Experience: At least 2 years of experience in forestry, including cruising, planning, harvesting, and silviculture.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills. Ability to work in a team and independently.
- Knowledge: Familiarity with BC forestry legislation, policies, and technologies.
- Passion: A strong work ethic and love for the outdoors.
