Description

The Heavy-Duty Mechanic will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of heavy-duty equipment, including loaders, forklifts, and other machinery used in our sawmill operations. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to workplace safety.

 

Duties

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues in heavy-duty equipment.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and preventive repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts used, and maintenance schedules.
  • Conduct diagnostics using computerized tools and manual inspections.
  • Work collaboratively with other maintenance staff and operations personnel to prioritize repairs.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations and company policies.
  • Order and manage spare parts inventory for heavy equipment.
  • Provide emergency repair services as needed.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Red Seal Certification or equivalent qualification in Heavy Equipment Mechanics (preferred).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a heavy-duty mechanic, preferably in a sawmill or industrial setting.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and diesel engines.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Experience using diagnostic software and tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends if necessary.
