We're hiring a Maintenance Planner at Conifex Timber Inc. to join our team in Mackenzie, BC.
As an integral part of the Mackenzie Team, the Maintenance Planner is responsible for planning plant maintenance activities to achieve the plant reliability targets in a safe and cost effective manner. The Maintenance Planner plans project needs for major turnarounds, schedules, and coordinates activities for preventative maintenance of all plant assets and collaborates with the Maintenance Superintendent in overseeing maintenance staff and contractors assigned to designated projects.
The Maintenance Planner's primary responsibilities include assisting in implementing a maintenance management system, inspecting facilities for deficiencies, preparing reports and work orders, and file management and asset history tracking through our CMMS, Synergen.
Other responsibilities include reviewing requests for service and determining if a problem can be solved in-house. If it can, the Maintenance Planner performs or assigns the repair work to maintenance staff, setting priorities, and participating in job tasks as necessary, or makes a recommendation on a need for outside contractors, including preparing bid specifications.
The Maintenance Planner also plans labour and material costs for designated maintenance and repair projects, including ordering materials, obtaining outside bids, reading blueprints, and planning other project needs. As such, a solid understanding of performance management, continuous improvement processes, and knowledge of optimization equipment and processes is important for all candidates.
Safety is important to us at Conifex, so we're looking for candidates with experience in safety management, who are capable of ensuring that all their workers have appropriate training and instruction and are performing their work correctly and receive prompt feedback and coaching to ensure high safety standards. Part of the Maintenance Planner's role is to ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies and to ensure that all employees are aware of all reasonably foreseeable health and safety risks and have a strong understanding of the work process, hazards involved, and effective control measures.
We require a Grade 12 education or equivalent as well as training in CMMS. We would consider a Millwright Trade Certification to be an asset, but it is not a strict requirement. We value your proven skills in safety management, leadership, and development more, and we would like to see at least 3 years' of experience, including supervisory experience, in an industrial maintenance setting from all applicants.
This is a full-time position, with a 40-hour work week from Monday to Friday and a $106,500 annual salary. The successful candidate would need to either live in or be willing to relocate to Mackenzie, BC.

Duties
- Assist in implementing a maintenance management system meeting the organizations requirements for quality work management, cost control, inventory management and information exchange.
- Reviews requests for service, determines whether problem can be resolved in-house, performs or assigns repair work to maintenance staff, sets priorities, and participates in job tasks as necessary.
- Inspects facilities for deficiencies and prepares reports and work orders.
- Plans labor and material costs for designated maintenance and repair projects, which may include, ordering materials, obtaining outside bids, reading blue prints, planning other project needs.
- Makes recommendations on the need for outside contractors – may prepare bid specifications.
- File Management and asset history tracking primarily through the Conifex central maintenance management system (Synergen).
- Provide leadership and support in achievement of the Corporate and Divisional goals and objectives.
- Oversee the stocking and management of storeroom inventory and critical spares.
- Ensure that all workers under their direction receive appropriate training and instruction.
- Observe workers in the performance of their duties and through timely feedback and coaching, ensure that they are performing tasks safely.
- Ensure employees are made aware of all reasonably foreseeable health or safety hazards in their areas of work Understand the work process, the hazards involved and implement effective control measures for the hazards.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
Qualifications
Education & Certifications
- Millwright Trade Certification would be an asset.
- Grade 12.
- Training in Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
Skills
- Proven ability in safety management, leadership and development skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, problem solving and team building skills.
- Solid knowledge of performance management and continuous improvement processes.
- Solid understanding and knowledge of optimization equipment and processes would be an asset.
- Strong business acumen.
- Strong organizational skills with the desire to accept the challenge of working in continually changing internal/external business conditions.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in an industrial maintenance environment including supervisory experience.
- Experience with related software and the development and implementation of preventative maintenance programs.
