Conifex Power is seeking a Chief Power Engineer to lead operations at our biomass energy plant. If you’re a seasoned leader with expertise in power generation, maintenance, and operational excellence, this is your opportunity to drive success in a dynamic, growth-focused environment.

Duties

As the senior operational leader, you will oversee the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the plant, ensuring optimal fuel management, electricity output, and system reliability.

  • Lead Operations: Manage daily operations of the plant, including fuel handling, water treatment, boilers, turbines, cooling towers, and electrical distribution systems.
  • Optimize Performance: Oversee the plant's reliability-centered maintenance program, ensuring effective asset management and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure full compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations (WorkSafeBC, TSBC, environmental permits), and lead safety culture across teams.
  • Team Leadership: Build a high-performance culture by mentoring staff, conducting performance reviews, and fostering continuous improvement.
  • Industrial Relations: Cultivate positive relationships with union officials and staff to resolve concerns and support collaborative solutions.
  • Strategic Support: Assist the Plant Manager with budgeting, capital planning, and achieving financial targets. Support contractual obligations with BC Hydro, Conifex Timber, and other stakeholders.
  • Community & Stakeholder Engagement: Represent Conifex Power in public events, addressing regulatory bodies and community stakeholders.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • First Class Power Engineering designation in BC
  • Technical Safety Authority Certification to operate in BC
  • National Board Inspector Certification (an asset)

Experience:

  • 5-10 years in managing operations at an electrical power generation plant
  • Experience with biomass-fired facilities and industrial-scale equipment (boilers, turbines, generators)
  • Strong background in operations & maintenance planning, shutdown coordination, and team leadership
  • Experience in cost management, reporting, and business administration
